Attend the Conservation Commission
public hearing to learn more about the subject and express your concern.
Here's the simple, honest truth: most town commissions and committees
operate with very little public input except for a small but vocal
"activist" base. The result is that members of these committees,
mostly volunteers with good intentions to serve the public interest, do not
get an adequate view of public sentiment regarding many issues or the
importance of those issues to the general public. Attending public
hearings is one way of not only finding out more about what is going on, but
sending a signal to commissions that the public is taking note and
scrutinizing decisions.

Write to the members of the P&Z and voice your concerns
over our water safety. No one expects you to be an expert in water
quality and safety issues. We aren't! But as a citizen of
Madison, you have the right for your concerns to be heard and to demand that
the appropriate agencies take not just the mandatory steps to ensure public
safety, but to go the extra mile and make absolutely sure that public safety
is weighted more importantly than the requests of a developer. The address for the P&Z is: 8 Campus
Drive, Madison CT 06443. You do not need to write to each board member
individually. They are all given copies of any correspondence.

 |
Write to the Town Selectmen and voice your opposition to the
proposed amendment. The address is the same as above and again you can
send one letter and they will all be given copies.
|
 |
Write letters to the editors of the Shoreline Times (Shorelinetimes@ctcentral.com)
and The Source (news@shorepublishing.com).
Generally, these should be between 200-400 characters.

Email us at
info@noHEDS06443.com to voice your concerns over our water safety,
supply and quality. We will print out all emails and present them to the P&Z
board at the public hearing. Please be sure to include your name
and address on the email to support its validity.

Join us in getting the word out. We have a
flyer in PDF format that you can download,
print out and run copies. We encourage everyone to alert their neighbors
and friends regarding this issue. Please note that you cannot legally put
flyers IN other people's mailboxes. Please put them ON the mailbox
(like wedged in by the flag, in a paper delivery box, or otherwise on the
outside of the box).

Contribute to the cause. Lawyers, printing,
advertising, this web site... they all cost money. The pricetag for
the battle against HEDS was in the thousands of dollars. We depend on
individual donations as well as donations from neighborhood associations to
meet these expenses and head off developers with deep pockets. Please
make checks payable to Madison Citizens for Community Character or
MCCC and mail to PO Box 1096, 634 Boston Post Road, Madison CT 06443.
